Larry Niven is great writer. I'm reading the Fleet of World series now. Good stuff. This is stellar rendering of the Motes. Great work. :)

Love the gripping hand!!  if you enjoyed Mote in God's Eye then you might also enjoy the next on "The Gripping Hand".  You did a great job making this white/brown look imposing

I agree, it's one of my favorite SF stories, and definitely one of the best first-contact scenarios I've come across. And not to mention the Moties themselves are just awesome. (But I feel like Larry Niven tends to do a pretty good job with his aliens in general haha.) :)

Picked up the book not that long ago, its was a pleasant surprise to find something this well done with art for the series as unfortunately scarce as it is.

Should you ever decide to do commissions, I'd love to ask you for depictions of Watchmakers, Warriors, Doctors, Porters, Farmers, Runners, and Meats. How much would you charge per sketch?

Actually I do not do commissions now - too busy at work and too tired to paint at home :(
But if I'd ever return to Moties, I'll let you know

The Mote in God's Eye was one of the best sci-fi novels I've ever read, and it's so great to see a decent depiction of a Motie. Art of them seems to be extremely scarce.... =p

Right you are. I've searched references and hardly found one picture of Motie and to say the truth that was not too impressive :)

Indeed, one would think that more visual reference would exist for such a classic novel. Maybe you've set a benchmark with this image. ;)

Were the white ones doctors?
It's been forever but I still think about that world to this day.

That was just the greatest concept for a alien race and civilization.
Didn't they have domes full of artifacts so when they wiped themselves out they wouldn't have to start from scratch?

For sure Niven and Pournell have brilliantly put the idea of "circles" of rise and fall of civilizations onto sci-fi canvass :)

The idea of a primitive tribe coming across one of those things just gives me the chills.
Like the end of the original Planet of the Apes.
